Saltwater & Steel Opening

Saltwater & Steel, opening November 21 at the POMO Museum, explores the history of Burrard Inlet and the vessels and industries that have shaped life along its shores. Drawing on historic photographs, artifacts, and local stories, the exhibition looks at the Inlet as both a transportation route and a working waterway, from early travel on canoes and ferries, to tugboats and tankers. Saltwater & Steel highlights the many ways people have travelled, worked, and connected across Burrard Inlet, and the important role the waterway has played in the development of Port Moody and the surrounding region.

Marvellous Mushrooms Opening

Tickets for Emily Betz’s talk are unfortunately sold out, guests are still welcome to come to the museum after hours.

From the Royal BC Museum, come join us at our official opening on July 25th at 5:30 pm of Marvellous Mushrooms!

To celebrate the opening of our travelling exhibition, Marvellous Mushrooms by the Royal BC Museum, and our Growing in the Tri-Cities display, we will be hosting an opening night event! Guests will be given the opportunity to explore the museum outside of open hours, hear a talk from Emily Betz, researcher and educator at Kwantlen Polytechnic University, mingle with members of the community, and, of course, enjoy some light snacks and drinks.

While that portion is only available to ticketed guests, visitors who do not have a ticket can experience the museum after hours (5 pm - 8 pm) and purchase concession and drinks at the door.

Marvellous Mushrooms by Royal BC Museum encourages visitors to learn more about BC mushrooms and their versality. It introduces a cross-section of different species—some familiar, some bizarre, some delicious and some deadly. Their lives are interwoven with every part of British Columbia ecosystems.

Mushrooms are not only a subject of scientific study but also a source of food, dyes, and medicine; and objects of ceremony and beauty. This exhibition delves into the many facets of these fabulous fungi. — RBCM

Across Port Moody, Coquitlam, and Port Coquitlam, people are cultivating food, restoring habitats, tending gardens, and caring for the natural spaces that connect our communities. Through their efforts, local ecosystems thrive, neighbours connect, and knowledge is shared between generations.

Growing in the Tri-Cities highlights the stories of individuals, community groups, and Indigenous stewardship initiatives that are helping shape a greener future. Through photographs, interviews, and personal reflections, visitors will discover the many ways people nurture the land and the positive impact this work has on both the environment and community well-being.

Doors open at 5:30 PM and the event begins at 6:00 PM

How Much?: $10 (before tax)

Will there be drinks?: For purchase at the museum

Will there be food?: Light snacks will be provided.
