Since the late 1970s, POMO Museum has been owned and operated by the Port Moody Heritage Society (PMHS). Since opening to the public on July 1, 1983, the Society’s board members, staff, and volunteers have dedicated time serving the community and initiating heritage conservation efforts. This includes the development of exhibitions and collections, as well as advocacy for various historic sites of significance, such as IOCO town site. Collectively, this work supports the Society’s mission to promote heritage awareness and education throughout the Burrard Inlet.

In 2023, the Museum developed a new identity, transitioning from the Port Moody Station Museum to POMO Museum. This change reflects a broader commitment to capture the diverse and evolving stories of Port Moody in recent decades. Visitors are invited to explore galleries within the historic 1908 Canadian Pacific Railway station; tour the restored 1921 first-class sleeper car, Venosta; and experience the Museum’s gardens, suitable for all ages. Through these experiences, we welcome everyone to discover new things about our shared history and city!

Overseen by the PMHS, staff and volunteers play an essential role in fostering community experiences. Programming and operations are supported by a combination of permanent and seasonal staff, alongside dedicated volunteers who contribute to a wide range of projects and daily activities. With this collective support, we seek to help and inspire curiosity and learning among visitors.

Moving into the future, POMO Museum remains committed to responding to the heritage and advocacy needs of its community. Guided by its vision to “preserve the past while engaging the future,” the Museum continues to expand opportunities for meaningful connection with the shared history of Port Moody.
