Job Title: Programs and Events Coordinator

Reports to: Executive Director

Full time

6 month contract, potential to extend.

40 hours per week

$25.15/hour

POMO Museum and Port Moody Heritage Society collects, preserves/conserves, studies, exhibits, and interprets artifacts and information relating to the settlement of the region at the head of Burrard Inlet. The collections consist of artifacts acquired and

preserved for their historical, cultural, intangible, or tangible significance. We acknowledge our location on the unceded territories of the Coast Salish speaking peoples, with whom we are actively working to develop strong relationships.

Job Summary

-Share the heritage of Port Moody with individuals and groups through the development of learning events and programs for individuals, private organizations, and members of the public.

Key Job Duties and Responsibilities

Managing:

-Train summer staff as needed, assist in development of volunteer training methods

-Ensure all team members understand the learning programs/events being held.

Learning Programs:

-Learn and review existing learning/education programs

-Work with BC Curriculum materials to develop learning programs for various ages

-Work with staff to organize, and cause to be delivered, learning programs for adults( ie. speaker series)

-Network with stakeholder community (i.e. principals) to develop relationships and ensure POMO Learning Programs align

with their needs.

Events

-Learn and review existing events

-Work with staff and stakeholders to develop future events that further the mandate and vision of the society.

-Work with Executive Director and Board of Directors to develop and deliver, or cause to be delivered, fundraising events for the society.

Other Duties

- Assist with the development and execution of exhibitions

-Development of marketing copy (words and images) for events/learning programs.

-General assistance as needed

Job Posting:  Museum Assistant

 

POMO Museum is now inviting applications for the temporary Museum Assistant position for the summer season. The Society’s mission is to promote an appreciation of community heritage by preserving and presenting history through exhibits and programs.

We are hiring for 16 weeks.

The successful candidates will work in collections, exhibit research, assist with programs, tours, special events, and do other varied duties around the museum. The successful candidates must be reliable, possess good written and oral communication skills in English, have strong computer skills, and be able to take initiative. We are in a heritage building with stairs which may cause a barrier to some individuals.

All training is provided, applicants with no experience encouraged to apply.

 Consistent with the criteria of the Young Canada Works program, applicants must also meet the following criteria:

·   Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or have refugee status in Canada (non-Canadians holding temporary work visas or awaiting permanent status are not eligible)

·  are legally entitled to work in Canada

·  Between 16 and 30 years of age at the start of employment

· Not have another full-time job (over 30 hours/week) during assignment

· Have been a full-time high school, college, CEGEP or university student in the semester preceding this assignment

· Intend to return to full-time studies in the semester following this assignment

  • $18.20/hr plus 4% in lieu of vacation
    Duration: up to 16 weeks, 35 hrs/wk- weekends are required
    Time frame: Summer 2024, May to early September
    Language: English is essential, French an asset.
