CSJ Museum Assistant – Summer 2026
POMO Museum is seeking applicants for Museum Assistant positions for Summer 2026. Our mission is to celebrate Port Moody’s heritage through exhibits, programs, and community engagement.
Museum Assistants will support public programming, visitor services, events, exhibits, and collections activities while gaining hands-on experience in heritage education and museum operations.
Position Details
Duration: Up to 16 weeks
Hours: 35 hours/week (weekends required)
Wage: $18.20/hour + 4% vacation pay
Timeline: May–August 2026
Language: English required; French considered an asset
Key Responsibilities
Public Programs, Tours & Events
Assist with planning and delivering programs for children, youth, families, and adults.
Help facilitate guided tours for schools, camps, and community groups.
Support museum events, workshops, and seasonal programming.
Assist with event setup, delivery, and teardown.
Visitor Experience & Operations
Welcome visitors and provide front-of-house support.
Assist with admissions, gift shop sales, and Point of Sale transactions.
Support opening/closing procedures and general museum upkeep.
Marketing & Communications
Draft social media posts and promotional content.
Create simple graphics using Canva and schedule posts with Meta Business Suite.
Photograph programs, exhibits, and activities.
Use Microsoft 365 for communication and documentation.
Exhibits, Research & Collections
Assist with exhibit development and historical research.
Help prepare interpretive text, labels, and exhibit components.
Support collections handling, documentation, and digitization.
Participate in basic preventive conservation tasks.
General Support
Assist with administrative tasks and program preparation.
Help maintain organized workspaces and program supplies.
Participate in staff meetings and support day-to-day museum operations.
Qualifications
Required
Interest in heritage, museums, education, or community programs
Strong communication skills and reliability
Basic computer skills and willingness to learn
Weekend availability
Ability to work in a heritage building with stairs
Assets (not required)
Experience with Canva, Microsoft 365, Meta Business Suite, or Adobe Creative Suite
Experience working with children, youth, or community events
Museum or heritage sector exposure
Familiarity with collections databases or cataloguing standards
Valid Class 5 driver’s licence and access to a vehicle
Canada Summer Jobs Eligibility
Applicants must:
Be 16–30 years old at the start of employment
Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person with refugee protection
Be legally entitled to work in Canada
Not hold another full-time job during the placement
