Rickie the Raccoon

My favourite thing about history is that it's full of surprises! Just when you think you've learned everything, a new discovery, or story, helps us see the past in a whole new way. I love learning how new ideas shape our future while helping us better understand where we came from!

Read below to learn more of my story…

My name is Rickie the Raccoon, and I am not your average raccoon! As an honorary Port Moody resident since the 1970s, I spent my younger years around the railways and in the forests of the Burrard Inlet. There, I developed a passion for trains and local history. Realizing my new passion, I became a mascot at the museum, where I was their most notable ambassador for the community.

I initially retired in the 1990s, but having seen the many changes around Port Moody, I wanted to come back bigger and better! Today, I spend my time engaging with the community, exploring museum exhibits, and I'm spreading the word on the importance of local history. I make sure when I am learning history, that I also continue to learn at any age!
